Just another example of an abandoned building in and around Detroit. I had heard for years that this had once been a bowling center. I don't remember ever seeing one there, and I've been going past it for at least 20 years. The marquee said "Esquire" until a few weeks ago. I think its last public use was a movie theater. A friend and I looked into buying the building(coincidentally for a bowling center) about 10 years ago, and the guy wanted too much. It had been abandoned for at least 5 years at THAT point. Last week I drove by and happened to notice the sign had changed. I think that high winds probably tore up the sign that was covering this up. Note the red and white part in the lower left of the sign - that's all that's left of the "Esquire" sign.
That's both beautiful and haunting. I love the photo...but it's sad.
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to do a portfolio of abandoned buildings in the area. It's not like I'll have any trouble FINDING any... :-(
